People Watching Poem (Revised Draft)

Petition for Rebellion

Ants scuttling around, jobs to be done,
Not a second to waste, stay on task.

Not a single hair out of place, so orderly,
Shirt tucked, shoes tied straight. Knuckles rapped.

Listening without question, blank stares,
Working on command. Like model citizens ought.

No one knows how to be their own person,
Identical copies fresh off the hot conveyor belt.

Rules are closing in, breathing is constricted,
Expectations pasted on all four walls.

Where is the spontaneity?
What gives you spots instead of stripes?

An awful world, a boring future,
I petition for rebellion.
